Ah-wah-bah-kal. The people of the plain surface. "Awaba" describes Lake Macquarie — a place of flat, still water. "Ba" denotes place of. "Kal" speaks to the people.
We operate on the traditional lands of the Awabakal people, spanning modern-day Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and the Central Coast.
Their sophisticated understanding of native plants, fire management, and sustainable land practices maintained this Country for millennia.
Today, we strive to incorporate Awabakal plant knowledge into every garden we touch. Working with Country, not against it.
